Samsung Galaxy S III full specs: 1.5GHz quad-core, 1080p display, ceramic case

Samsung Galaxy S III full specs: 1.5GHz quad-core, 1080p display, ceramic case.

SGS3 Specs:

  • 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor
  • 4.8-inch “full HD” 1080p resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio display
  • A 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera
  • Ceramic case
  • 4G LTE
  • Android 4.0

WOW!!! FULL 1080P Display – that means a resolution of 1920 X 1080.  I definitely didn’t see that coming! I’m still skeptical.

And what we new all along, but now it’s pretty much official: Exynos Quad-core.  This definitely means it is the Exynos 4412 ARM-A9 chip.  My excitement for this phone knows no bounds!

I’m keenly waiting for confirmation on the SGS3′s battery size (more than 2000 mAh?), the RAM (1GB or 2GB?), the onboard storage (32 GB standard?) and the thickness. Can it still be 7mm with that insane display?  I’m doubtful but who cares it can be 8.49mm like the original SGS2 and that is just fine with me.

Android: 300 million devices, 850k daily activations, and 450,000 apps

450,000 Android apps are available for download in the Android Market. That’s 3X the 150,000 apps announced at MWC last year.

1 billion Android apps are downloaded each month, and the number is growing.

More than 800 Android devices have been released in the past 41 months, and that number is really growing, especially considering all the product announcements we’ve seen already.

Android enjoys 250% year-over-year growth

via Android: 300 million devices, 850k daily activations, and 450,000 apps.

The Android universe is one MASSIVE ecosystem.  Every time Andy Rubin updates the daily activations figure I’m amazed.  At some point in 2012 we are going to hear it has crossed 1 million daily activations.  And 1 billion Android apps downloaded every month – that figure is STAGGERING!

I have yet to use my smartphone to pay for my meal, but this type of thing will be ubiquitous sooner than we think.  I would guess in 2 years tops this is will be the standard way to pay at a restaurant!

Dropbox adds auto-upload for photos & videos, removes file size limits and Apps on SD storage

Dropbox adds auto-upload for photos & videos, removes file size limits and Apps on SD storage.

Good enhancement from my favourite cloud service.  I often use the dropbox app to move photos from my phone to my desktop anyways, so this is a convenient update for me. I also use dropbox now and then to move downloaded ROMs from my iMac to my phone.

Samsung demos quad-core Exynos processors

via Samsung demos quad-core Exynos processors, we drool | Android and Me.

So Samsung demos 4 new Exynos Variants: ARM Cortex-A9 based dual and quad core (Exynos 4212 and 4412), and ARM Cortex-A15 based dual and quad core (Exynos 5250 and 5450.)

  • Exynos 4212: 32 nm, 1.2-1.5 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, ARM Mali-400 GPU
  • Exynos 4412: 32 nm, 1.5-1.8 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, ARM Mali-400 GPU
  • Exynos 5250: 32 nm, 2.0 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, ARM Mali-T604 GPU
  • Exynos 5450: 32/28 nm, 2.0 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, ARM Mali-T658 GPU

So the BIG QUESTIONS:

a) Is the SGS 3 going to have a dual-core or a quad-core?

b) Is the SGS 3 going to have an A9 or A15 based CPU?

Taylor Wimberly writes:

“Hopefully we will learn more about Samsung’s roadmap at Mobile World Congress next week. I know everyone is all excited about quad-core, but I’m hoping we see the dual-core Exynos 5250 inside the next Galaxy S III and Galaxy Tab 11.6.”

I’m going to say NO CHANCE!  While I would also much prefer to see the more advanced architecture of an A15 based processor in the next Samsung Superphone, I think their Marketing department dictates that an SGS 3 comes with a quad-core chip.  Since the Cortex-A15 based quad-core (Exynos 5450) seems to be more than 6 months away, my guess is we will see the A9 4-core Exynos 4412 in the Samsung Galaxy S III.

I hope I’m wrong but I would be shocked if I was!
